Artorder

Jon Schindehette, an Art Director for Wizards of the Coast has generously posted some of my genre work up on his blog. On the blog he runs art challenges and comments on the fantasy illustration industry and it's great place to get some exposure, well worth a visit. Thank Jon.

Dragon rider...

I've been working on this sporadically over the last year finally coming back to it after about 6 months. It was initially a companion piece for the dragon rider done early last year.

Profile study...

Like the profile below this was a quick study done over two sessions with the model. The first sketching and blocking in and the second, oiling out and refining the details. I am having a lot more fun with these quicker studies. This was painted under a warm halogen lamp at Ashtons.

Sorolla...

I just took delivery of the Joaquin Sorolla book by Blanc Pons-Sorolla. This is the softcover release by The San Diego Museum of Art. I spent a while trying to get hold of the original (same translation just with a different preface/acknowledgments) but it's price is just insane. This book is stunning, highly recommended, the reproductions are beautiful and very inspiring.

storms...

They are still rolling in, isn't it Autumn already???

Out of habit(being a matte painter) i shoot alot of skies. A matte painter is only as good as his photo library right?!?! Hopefully these will come in handy one day on that next post apocalyptic painting- I shot about 5 panoramas.

For an online art challenge...

I started in oils and finished digitally. It's interesting to see how i can integrate my traditional work into my digital work. Not totally sold on it but it's fun.
